Isaac graduated!!!!

Isaac had his high school graduation last night in the rodeo stadium, here in Jasper. It was a really good ceremony, but our favorite part was his speech. None of us would have been too sad if the graduation had just ended after he gave his speech, but nope.. it went on longer because apparently people expect to hear the other graduates names being read too. oh well.

We are all really proud of Isaac for doing so well and making us the proud family of the new high school salutatorian.

This is Isaac's speech:

Key to success

Congratulate the 2008 graduates

As some of you may know I was involved in scouting and became an Eagle Scout. In Scouting I learned a lot, among the things I learned was the points of the three fingers in the scout sign (make the sign). The highest finger is for God. The second is for our country, and the third is yourself. What this means is that you should put God and your country before yourself.

My faith is very important to me and I hope yours is to you. Next is our country. Some of you have already put our country first by joining the Marines, Navy, or the Air Force. To the rest of us to help our country we must support our men and women in arms and be involved in our nation and community. Make sure you know what is going on and get involved. You are adults and should act accordingly.

Another way to help the country and better yourself is to get a good education. This does not mean you have to go to the most expensive colleges, but that you pursue further education in a field you enjoy. If you want to be a carpenter you probably shouldn’t attend Harvard. The purpose for getting better education is so that you can find a job that will support you and your family in the future. In my Sophomore year, my English teacher’s house flooded because of a broken pipe. All her carpet and flooring were garbage, so someone came to replace it. Now these people probably didn’t have PhD’s, but they were good at what they did and got well paid for it. So, if you want to be successful you need to find out what you want to do, meet the requirements, and do it well. If you do this you will do fine.

Now to share my secret to my good grades, I am not all that smart. The reason I get good grades is because I do the work. Just showing up will not guarantee an A. You show up, (this is the hard part) listen as best you can (respect the teachers), and do the work. If you do this you will pass. All success requires at least some kind of work. So my message to you Class of 2008 is keep working, do your best, and have some fun along the way. You made it past High School, so keep going

So, are you going to tell us what all the medals and ropes and things mean?

Thanks for posting the speech - now we can feel like we participated in his graduation without actually driving the thriteen hours.

Congratulations Isaac. It is hard to believe that you are graduated, but what an accomplishment.
